Best Practices:

Trim the wick: Before each use, trim the wick to 1/4 inch. This prevents a large flame, excessive smoke, and uneven burning.

Remove debris: Ensure there are no wick trimmings or other debris in the wax pool, as these can cause smoking or uneven burning.

First burn is crucial: Allow the candle to melt evenly across the top surface during the first burn. This helps prevent tunneling (when the candle only burns down the center). 

Extinguishing:
Use a snuffer: A candle snuffer is the best way to extinguish a candle, as it minimizes smoke and prevents wax from splattering.
If using your breath: If you don’t have a snuffer, gently blow out the flame, but be aware that this may cause some smoke.
Don’t move a burning candle: Avoid moving a candle while it’s lit. Wait until the wax has cooled and hardened before moving it. 
Safety:
Never leave a burning candle unattended: Always supervise a burning candle.
Keep out of reach of children and pets: Place candles in a location where they won’t be easily knocked over or reached by children or pets. 
Limit burn time: Don’t burn candles for more than four hours at a time. Extended burning can lead to a larger flame, increased soot, and a weakened wick. 
Avoid drafts: Place your candle away from drafts, vents, fans, or open windows, as these can cause uneven burning and smoking. 
Keep it away from flammable materials: Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from curtains, furniture, and other flammable items.
